Neely’s BBQ Sauce

OK, so why buy a bottle of this when you can easily make your own? This is so easy and simple, it just takes time to simmer, but the results are really good.

Most of the time I can whip this up while preparing dinner, with ingredients that I always seem to have on hand in my pantry. This sauce will keep in the refrigerator for about a week.

I know that everyone has an individual preference for these kinds of sauces, so maybe make just a half batch first to see if you like it.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 5 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce ( I use Annie’s vegetarian version)

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer.

Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.
